Shoe Covers V12 MukGuard review
Now that we are in winter I thought now would be a good time to review and mention the V12 MukGuard Shoe Covers. Thankfully my favourite place to walk dogs, Bradlaugh Fields, has pretty good drainage. Areas like the Hills and Hollows remain fairly mud free all year round, something that can’t be said for many of the places I have reviewed in my Dog Walks review series. Despite this some mud on your boots / shoes is inevitable from time to time. Fortunately for me most of my clients have tiled or wooden floors rather than carpet and what mud there is on my boots seems to stay on the boots and not the floor. I still wanted to invest in some shoe covers however once I had heard about them. The shoe covers I finally purchased were the V12 MukGuard ones that I’m reviewing here.
V12 MukGuard Shoe Covers – Features
It has to be said at the outset that at a price of close to £20.00 these are not cheap. They are however well made, comfortable and hopefully durable (other reviews mention that they can lose their shape slightly but remain functional. I will update this review once I have owned for a longer period). Made from hard wearing neoprene they have a grippy sole and pull loop that makes them easy to put on and take off.
These shoe covers come in 3 sizes. For those who understand the UK shoe size system the sizes are, 07-08, 09-10 and 11-12. Based on these sizes it seems that perhaps they are aimed more at men than women which seems a missed opportunity when you consider that the majority of dog walkers tend to be female.
Shoe Covers – Alternatives
The v12 MukGuard shoe covers are by no means the only reusable ones available. For the purposes of this review though I want to compare them to the most frequently purchased alternative which seems to be the disposable plastic shoe covers.
Now there is little doubt that the disposable option is the cheaper way to go but should we really be encouraging the use of more plastic that gets thrown away? Ultimately it was this fact that led me to seek out these washable shoe covers. Having read dog walking forums I know the plastic disposable ones are a popular purchase but hopefully more and more of us will now consider a more environmentally friendly option. After all most dog walkers are now using biodegradable poo bags so why not washable shoe covers too?
